Abstract:The Dynamic Positioning (DP) capabilities of three thruster configurations of a semi-submersible platform are investigated based on synthesized DP capability criterion. For the investigated cases, the numbers and locations of the thrusters are different, but the total maximum available powers are the same. The DP capability results are gained by a self-dependently developed program,and the relationship between the thruster configuration and the DP capability of the platform is explored, which can provide certain reference for practical engineering.
